Meet Louis Rosenberg

Louis Rosenberg, PhD is a pioneer in fields of augmented reality, virtual reality and artificial intelligence. He earned his PhD from Stanford, has been awarded over 300 patents for VR, AR, and AI technologies, and founded a number of successful companies including Unanimous AI, Immersion Corporation, Microscribe, and Outland Research.

Rosenberg began his career at Air Force Research Laboratory in the early 1990’s where he created the first interactive augmented reality system. Known as the Virtual Fixtures platform, it enabled users to interact with a mixed reality of real and virtual objects for the first time.

Rosenberg then founded the early VR company Immersion Corp (1993) and brought the company public in 1999 (NASDAQ: IMMR). Immersion pioneered many technologies from the first VR simulators for medical schools to the first haptic devices for consumer markets including the first haptic mice and joysticks and touchscreens.

Rosenberg also founded Microscribe (1996), maker of early 3D digitizers used in the production of video games, virtual worlds, and feature films. The Microscribe digitizer was used in the creation of major films such as Shrek, Ice Age, Starship Troopers, and Bugs Life (acquired in 2009)

Rosenberg also founded Outland Research in 2004, a developer of augmented reality and mobile media technologies (acquired in 2011).

Rosenberg was also a Professor at California State University (Cal Poly) teaching engineering, design, ed-tech, and entrepreneurship.

Most recently, Rosenberg founded Unanimous AI (2014) to amplify the intelligence of networked human groups using the biological principle of Swarm Intelligence. The idea panned out, resulting in Swarm AI, an award-winning technology used by a wide range of organizations from Fortune 500 corporations to the United Nations.

In addition, Rosenberg writes often for VentureBeat and Big Think on a range of topics from artificial intelligence and biological swarms, to virtual reality and augmented reality.

To help push for safe metaverse technologies, Dr. Rosenberg also volunteers as the Chief Scientist of the Responsible Metaverse Alliance and as the Global Technology Advisor to the XR Safety Initiative (XRSI). He is also an advisor to the Future of Marketing Institute.
